Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Drass in Ladakh on July 26 to mark the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas. This day commemorates the victory of Indian forces in the 1999 Kargil War against Pakistan.

Preparations for the Visit

On Sunday, Lt. Governor of Ladakh, Brig (Retd) B D Mishra, held a meeting to review the arrangements for the Prime Minister’s visit to the Kargil War Memorial at Drass. He instructed officials to complete all necessary preparations on time.

Lt. Governor Mishra will visit the Kargil War Memorial on July 24 to inspect the arrangements.

Previous Celebrations

In 2022, Prime Minister Modi celebrated Diwali in Kargil with soldiers and paid tribute to the army personnel who lost their lives in the 1999 conflict.

Significance of Kargil Vijay Diwas

Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed annually on July 26, marks the conclusion of the Kargil War. Indian forces successfully reclaimed strategic positions in the Kargil sector of Jammu and Kashmir that had been infiltrated by Pakistani soldiers and terrorists.
