Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Visit Poland and Ukraine for Strengthening Ties
New Delhi, August 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be making official visits to Poland and Ukraine from August 21-23, as announced by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). This will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Poland in 45 years, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Poland.
Historic Visit to Poland
MEA Secretary (West) Tanmaya Lal highlighted the significance of this visit, stating, “PM Narendra Modi will be undertaking an official visit to Poland this week on 21st and 22nd August on the invitation of PM Donald Tusk. This is a landmark visit as the PM of India is visiting Poland after 45 years.”
The visit will provide an opportunity for leaders to review and enhance bilateral relations and discuss regional and global issues of mutual interest. The MEA also recalled Poland’s assistance to India during the evacuation of Indian students from Ukraine in 2022 and the historical refuge provided to Polish women and children during World War II.
Engagements in Poland
During his visit, PM Modi will meet with Polish leaders, including President Andrzej Duda, and interact with the Indian community in Poland. He will also be accorded a ceremonial welcome in Warsaw. The visit will touch upon cultural ties, including the respect for Indian culture, Yoga, and Ayurveda.
Visit to Ukraine
Following his visit to Poland, PM Modi will head to Ukraine at the invitation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1992.
In Kyiv, PM Modi will discuss various aspects of bilateral ties, including political, trade, economic, investments, education, cultural, and humanitarian assistance. He will also interact with the Indian community and students in Ukraine.
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
India and Poland share long-standing friendly relations, marked by high-level political contacts and vibrant economic engagement. Poland is a key economic partner for India in Central Europe.
