Prime Minister Narendra Modi Pays Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi in Kyiv
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Kyiv, Ukraine, on Friday and paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at his statue in the ‘Oasis of Peace’ park. He emphasized the importance of Gandhi’s message of peace in creating a harmonious society and addressing global challenges.
The statue of Mahatma Gandhi, located in the AV Fomin Botanical Garden, was unveiled in 2020 to mark Gandhi’s 151st birth anniversary. Modi shared a picture on his X handle, stating, ‘Paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Kyiv. The ideals of Bapu are universal and give hope to millions. May we all follow the path he showed to humanity.’
During his visit, Modi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also honored the Memory of Children at the Martyrologist Exposition at the Ukraine National Museum in Kyiv. This memorial honors the children who lost their lives due to the conflict. Modi expressed his condolences to the families affected by the tragedy.
This visit is significant as it is the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine. Upon his arrival at the Hyatt Hotel in Kyiv, Modi received a warm welcome from the Indian community, including many students eager to see him.
