Prime Minister Narendra Modi Hoists National Flag at Red Fort on 78th Independence Day
On August 15, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the national flag at Red Fort in New Delhi for the 11th consecutive time, celebrating the 78th Independence Day. Despite an overcast sky and slight drizzle, the event proceeded with great enthusiasm.
After hoisting the Tricolour, PM Modi received a ‘Rashtriya Salute’ from the Punjab Regiment Military band, led by Subedar Major Rajinder Singh. The band played the National Anthem during the flag hoisting.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi greeted the nation on his social media app X, saying, ‘Independence Day greetings to my fellow Indians. Jai Hind!’
Upon arriving at Red Fort, PM Modi was welcomed by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, MoS Defence Sanjay Seth, and Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane. The Defence Secretary introduced the General Officer Commanding (GoC), Delhi Area Lieutenant General Bhavnish Kumar, to the Prime Minister. The GoC conducted PM Modi to the Saluting Base, where a combined Inter-Services and Delhi Police Guard presented a general salute. PM Modi then inspected the Guard of Honour, which included personnel from the Army, Air Force, and Delhi Police.
After the flag hoisting, PM Modi addressed the nation from the ramparts of Red Fort. The Indian Navy coordinated the Guard of Honour, commanded by Commander Arun Kumar Mehta. The Army contingent was led by Major Arjun Singh, the Naval contingent by Lieutenant Commander Gulia Bhavesh NK, and the Air Force contingent by Squadron Leader Akshara Uniyal. The Delhi Police contingent was commanded by Additional DCP Anurag Dwivedi.
To increase public participation, around 6,000 special guests were invited to witness the celebrations at Red Fort. Flower petals were showered at the venue by two Advanced Light Helicopters Dhruv of the Indian Air Force, piloted by Wing Commander Amber Agarwal and Wing Commander Rahul Nainwal.
The theme for this year’s Independence Day is ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047’, aiming to transform India into a developed nation by 2047.
