Warsaw, Poland – During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Poland, India and Poland decided to elevate their ties to the level of strategic partnership. The leaders expressed their deepest concern over the Ukraine conflict and reiterated the need for a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace.

This visit, the first by an Indian PM in 45 years, coincided with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. Prime Minister Modi and Polish PM Donald Tusk affirmed their commitment to upholding peace and a rules-based international order. They also agreed to strengthen collaboration within multilateral forums to promote a stable and secure global environment.

The Ministry of External Affairs described PM Modi’s visit as historic and very successful. MEA Secretary West, Tanmaya Lal, highlighted that both countries have decided to elevate their relationship to a strategic partnership, releasing a joint statement and finalizing an action plan for further cooperation.

Poland will hold the Presidency of the European Union Council next year, and the two nations are negotiating a Free Trade Agreement with India and the EU. An understanding has been reached on a Social Security Agreement, which will be signed soon, facilitating issues for professionals working in each other’s countries.

Prime Minister Modi concluded his Poland visit and traveled to Ukraine for the second leg of his trip. He expressed gratitude to the Polish people and government for their warmth and looked forward to closer business and cultural connections with Poland.

During their discussions, PM Modi and PM Tusk agreed to formulate a five-year action plan for 2024-2028, covering various sectors including trade, investment, health, transport, and cyber security. They also emphasized the importance of a free, open, and rules-based Indo-Pacific region.
