Prime Minister Narendra Modi Attends G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Monday for the 19th G20 Leaders’ Summit. This visit marks the second leg of his three-nation tour. Upon arrival, he was welcomed by Indian delegates led by Ambassador Suresh Reddy.
In a post on X, PM Modi expressed his eagerness to participate in the summit and engage in discussions with global leaders. He shared, “Landed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to take part in the G20 Summit. I look forward to the Summit deliberations and fruitful talks with various world leaders.”
The Indian diaspora in Brazil was thrilled to welcome PM Modi, waving Indian flags and displaying his pictures. One member expressed excitement about meeting the leader of one of the world’s largest democracies, while another described it as an honor to see him in person.
Before arriving in Brazil, PM Modi visited Nigeria, where he held discussions with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. They focused on enhancing cooperation in defense, technology, health, and education. India also pledged 20 tons of humanitarian aid for Nigeria’s flood relief efforts.
At the G20 summit, India, as a Troika member, will play a crucial role in shaping the agenda, continuing the momentum from its previous presidency. Brazil aims to maintain the focus on Global South priorities. PM Modi emphasized the importance of advancing the Global South’s priorities and looks forward to meaningful discussions under the theme ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future.’
