New York [US], September 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his vision for India’s role in the world during a speech to the Indian diaspora in New York. He emphasized that India aims to increase its global impact through cooperation and prosperity, not by seeking supremacy.

Using a metaphor, PM Modi said, “We are not those who burn like fire, but those who enlighten like the sun.” He announced plans to open a Thiruvalluvar Chair of Tamil studies at the University of Houston and highlighted India’s role as a first responder to global disasters.

PM Modi stated, “India is now the land of opportunities. It doesn’t wait for opportunities anymore, it creates opportunities.” He also announced the opening of two new Indian consulates in Boston and Los Angeles, strengthening ties between India and the US.

He introduced the term ‘PUSHP’ to describe the five petals of a developed India: Progressive, Unstoppable, Spiritual, Humanity, and Prosperous. PM Modi said, “You may remember this word ‘Pushp’ which means flower, I define it as ‘P’ for progressive Bharat, ‘U’ for unstoppable Bharat, ‘S’ for spiritual Bharat, ‘H’ for humanity first which India has dedicated itself to and ‘P’ for prosperous India.”

Highlighting India’s growing global stature, PM Modi said, “Today, when India says something on a global platform, the world listens.” He mentioned India’s efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic, sending vaccines and medicines to over 150 nations.

Later, PM Modi will meet with CEOs of leading US-based companies to discuss collaborations in AI, quantum computing, semiconductors, and biotechnology. On Saturday, he participated in the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, hosted by US President Joe Biden, along with Australian PM Anthony Albanese and Japanese PM Fumio Kishida.
