Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Poland on August 21-22, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Poland in 45 years. This visit is at the invitation of Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

Importance of the Visit

Malgorzata Niemczyk, a member of Poland’s Sejm, emphasized the significance of PM Modi’s visit, highlighting the potential for collaboration between India and Poland, especially in sports. She praised India’s rich cultural history and youthful population.

Polish Senator Krzysztof Kwiatkowski also expressed his satisfaction with the visit, noting that trade and commerce could be key focus areas.

Historic Ties and Diplomatic Relations

MEA Secretary (West) Tanmaya Lal called this a landmark visit, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Poland. He recalled Poland’s assistance to India during the evacuation of Indian students from Ukraine in 2022 and the refuge provided to Polish women and children during World War 2.

During his visit, PM Modi will meet with Polish leaders, including the President, and interact with the Indian community in Poland. He will also receive a ceremonial welcome in Warsaw.

Future Prospects

India and Poland share a long-standing friendship with strong political and economic ties. Poland is a key economic partner for India in Central Europe, and this visit aims to further enhance the bilateral relationship.
