Prime Minister Modi’s Impact on Jammu and Kashmir: BJP Prepares for Assembly Polls
BJP Jammu and Kashmir unit President Ravinder Raina praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for transforming the region over the past decade. As the BJP gears up for the upcoming Assembly polls, Raina highlighted the party’s growing support in various districts.
At a joint press conference with Union Ministers G Kishen Reddy, Jitendra Singh, and former Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh, Raina said, “The BJP, with its full might, has joined the political fray in Jammu and Kashmir.” He noted that the party’s candidates are gaining ground in Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian, and Pulwama.
Raina emphasized the positive changes brought by the BJP-led government, stating, “The way PM Modi has changed the destiny and picture of Kashmir in the last ten years has led every child of Jammu and Kashmir to sing profusely from his heart, ‘Har Har Modi, Ghar Ghar Modi.'”
He criticized previous governments, saying, “During the era of Congress-National Conference and the People’s Democratic Party, there was stone-pelting and the noise of bullets was heard, but today there is prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir.”
The Assembly elections will be held in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, with vote counting on October 8. Jammu and Kashmir has 90 assembly constituencies, with 7 seats reserved for SCs and 9 for STs. The region has 88.06 lakh eligible electors.
In the last Assembly elections, the PDP won 28 seats, BJP 25, National Conference 15, and Congress 12. The PDP and BJP formed a coalition government, but the alliance ended in 2018. These are the first elections after the abrogation of Article 370.
