Strengthening Ties with President Zelenskyy
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Ukraine, marking the first visit by an Indian PM since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992. He met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss strengthening bilateral relations in various sectors including trade, defense, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and education.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar addressed the media in Kyiv, emphasizing the significance of the visit. He mentioned that PM Modi arrived by a special train and was received by the First Deputy Foreign Minister at the Kyiv railway station. PM Modi also met with the Indian community and Ukrainian students studying Hindi.
Jaishankar elaborated on the discussions between the two leaders, highlighting the focus on bilateral relations and the establishment of an Intergovernmental Commission to rebuild trade and economic ties. He also spoke about the humanitarian assistance provided by India to Ukraine, including 17 consignments of medical aid and the Bhishm Cube of Medical assistance, weighing a total of 22 tons.
During the visit, PM Modi and President Zelenskyy held a restricted meeting at the Mariinskyi Palace, followed by high-level delegation meetings. Important discussions on bilateral cooperation took place, and document exchanges were conducted to formalize agreements and collaborations between the two nations.
