As Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government completed 100 days in office, several significant actions were highlighted. These include:

New Criminal Laws

Three new criminal laws were implemented, replacing older laws:

  • Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita with 358 sections, adding 20 new crimes and increasing imprisonment terms for 33 offences.
  • Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita with 531 sections, altering 177 provisions and adding new sections and sub-sections.
  • Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam with 170 provisions, revising 24 provisions.

Forensic Infrastructure Enhancement

The Union Cabinet approved Rs 2,554 crore for the National Forensic Infrastructure Enhancement Scheme (N.F.I.E.S.) to improve forensic examination of evidence.

UGC-NET Paper Leak Investigation

The government referred allegations of UGC-NET paper leaks to the CBI and passed the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act to ensure transparency in public exams.

Condemnation of 1975 Emergency

The Lok Sabha adopted a resolution condemning the Emergency imposed by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, with Home Minister Amit Shah highlighting the sacrifices made to protect India’s democracy.

Disaster Management Efforts

The Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, 2024, was introduced to strengthen disaster response. Funds were allocated for urban flood management, glacial lake outburst flood risk mitigation, and other disaster management projects. The Emergency Response Support System (ERSS 2.0) was rolled out in several states and Union Territories.

In response to recent heavy rainfall and flooding in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, an expert team was formed to assist those affected.
