Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured that the central government is working hard to normalize the situation in Manipur, a northeastern state in India that has been experiencing ethnic violence since last year. He made these remarks while replying to the debate on ‘Motion of Thanks’ on the President’s address in the Rajya Sabha.

PM Modi stated, “The government is continuously making efforts to normalise the situation in Manipur. More than 11,000 FIRs have been registered and over 500 people arrested. Incidents of violence are continuously reducing in Manipur.”

He added that both the central and state governments are engaging with all stakeholders to restore peace. “Today, schools, colleges, offices, and other institutions are open in the state. The Central and the State govt are talking to all stakeholders to restore peace,” he said.

PM Modi also criticized the Congress party for imposing President’s rule in Manipur 10 times and urged opposition leaders to cooperate with the government to restore peace. “Leaving behind politics, we should cooperate to restore peace in Manipur,” he said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently reviewed the security situation in Manipur in a high-level meeting and directed that no further incidents of violence should occur. The Home Minister emphasized the strategic deployment of central forces to restore peace and tranquillity in the state.
