Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Vientiane, Laos, where he watched a performance of Phalak-Phalam, the Lao version of the Ramayana, by the Royal Theatre of Luang Prabang. He interacted with the performers and posed for photos. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri were also present.

Shared Cultural Heritage

The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the shared cultural heritage between India and Laos, noting the ongoing restoration of the Vat Phou temple by the Archaeological Survey of India. The Ramayana is celebrated in Laos, reflecting the deep historical ties between the two nations.

Buddhist Blessing Ceremony

Before the performance, PM Modi participated in a Buddhist blessing ceremony led by Most Venerable Mahaveth Masenai. This event underscored the shared Buddhist heritage between India and Laos.

ASEAN-India and East Asia Summits

PM Modi’s visit to Laos was part of his participation in the 21st ASEAN-India and 19th East Asia Summits. He was welcomed with a ceremonial Guard of Honour and expressed his commitment to strengthening ties with ASEAN countries.
