Prime Minister Modi Visits Poland and Ukraine, Strengthens Ties and Promotes Peace

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at Palam airport in Delhi on Saturday after completing his visits to Poland and Ukraine. This was the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Poland in 45 years and the first ever to Ukraine.

Visit to Ukraine

In Ukraine, PM Modi met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. They discussed the importance of international law, including respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty. Both leaders agreed on the need for closer dialogue and peaceful resolutions through diplomacy. India participated in the Summit on Peace in Ukraine held in Switzerland in June 2024, and Ukraine welcomed India’s involvement in future peace efforts. Four agreements were signed between India and Ukraine during this visit.

Visit to Poland

In Poland, PM Modi held talks with Prime Minister Donald Tusk. They decided to elevate their relationship to a ‘Strategic Partnership.’ Both leaders expressed concern over the ongoing war in Ukraine and its humanitarian impact. They emphasized the need for a comprehensive and lasting peace, respect for international law, and the UN Charter. They also condemned the use or threat of nuclear weapons and stressed the importance of global food and energy security.

Condemnation of Terrorism

India and Poland condemned terrorism in all forms and stressed that no country should support or provide safe havens for terrorists. They called for the firm implementation of UN resolutions and the adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism (CCIT).

Commitment to Indo-Pacific Region

Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to a free, open, and rules-based Indo-Pacific region, respecting international maritime laws and ensuring maritime security and international peace.
