Wayanad, Kerala, August 10: Kerala BJP president K Surendran expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for visiting the landslide-affected regions in Wayanad. Surendran described the visit as ‘promising and hopeful,’ noting that the Prime Minister has assured all necessary assistance to the state. He emphasized that both the central and state governments will collaborate on reconstruction efforts.

Prime Minister Modi conducted aerial and on-the-ground surveys of the affected areas, where over 300 lives were lost due to massive landslides on July 30. He met with victims, visited the disaster sites, and attended a meeting with the state government. Modi reassured that the central government would provide all necessary support for relief and reconstruction.

Wayanad District Collector Meghashree DR highlighted that the Prime Minister visited camps and hospitals, interacted with affected individuals, and appreciated the state government’s efforts. Dr. Charlie Cherian from St Thomas Hospital in Malakkara mentioned that the Prime Minister was briefed about the survivors’ conditions, emphasizing the need for psychological support alongside physical treatment.

During the visit, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan requested financial support for rehabilitation and climate change mitigation. He handed over a detailed memorandum to the Prime Minister, seeking cooperation from central government departments to assess the disaster’s extent and provide adequate financial aid for rapid reconstruction.
