Prime Minister Modi to Meet Lakhpati Didis in Maharashtra and Announce Big Support
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with Lakhpati Didis in Jalgaon, Maharashtra on August 25. Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced this in New Delhi.
During the event, the Prime Minister will distribute certificates to 11 lakh new Lakhpati Didis. He will also release a Community Investment Fund of Rs 2500 crore, benefiting about 48 lakh members of 4.3 lakh Self Help Groups (SHGs). Additionally, a bank loan of Rs 5000 crore will be released, benefiting 25.8 lakh members of 2,35,400 SHGs.
Chouhan mentioned that the program will be joined virtually from 30,000 locations across 34 states and Union Territories, including state capitals and district headquarters.
Lakhpati Didi is an initiative under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) by the Ministry of Rural Development. Lakhpati Didis are women who earn Rs 1 lakh or more per year. As of June 30, 2024, 10.05 crore women have been mobilized into 90.86 lakh SHGs under DAY-NRLM.
The Union Minister highlighted that Lakhpati Didis have not only lifted their families out of poverty but also become role models. The Ministry has already created 1 crore Lakhpati Didis and aims to create 3 crore more in the next 3 years. One Community Resource Person (CRP) has created 95 Lakhpati Didis.
For the Financial Year 2024-25, the Government of India has proposed a budgetary outlay of Rs 15047 crore for DAY-NRLM. This will support increased interventions for SHG members’ livelihoods, empowering them economically and promoting women-led development.
