Prime Minister Modi Talks About Safe Technology Use at UN Summit in New York

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke at the ‘Summit of the Future’ during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York. He emphasized the importance of safe and responsible use of technology and the need for balanced regulation. Modi stated, ‘Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) should be a bridge and not a barrier. For global good, India is ready to share its DPI. For India, One Earth, One Family, One Future is a commitment.’

The Quad nations also highlighted DPI’s critical role in creating a secure, reliable, and interoperable digital ecosystem. They affirmed principles such as inclusivity, security, privacy, and sustainability for the development and deployment of DPI. The Quad recognized the potential of digital technologies in shaping future societies and accelerating the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

DPI is described as a set of shared digital systems that are secure, reliable, and interoperable, built by both public and private sectors to provide equitable access and improve public service delivery. It is governed by legal frameworks that ensure fair competition, innovation, and respect for human rights.

Prime Minister Modi also addressed emerging areas of conflict like cyber, maritime, and space, stressing the need for global action to match global ambition. He noted that terrorism remains a serious threat to global peace and security.

During his visit, Modi participated in the Quad Summit and the UN Summit of the Future, where world leaders adopted a Pact for the Future. This pact includes a Global Digital Compact and a Declaration on Future Generations, covering themes like peace, sustainable development, climate change, digital cooperation, human rights, and global governance transformation.
