New Delhi [India], August 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the third Voice of Global South Summit, emphasizing the importance of giving a voice to the needs and aspirations of developing countries. He highlighted India’s efforts in sharing its experience and progress with partner countries, boosting cooperation in infrastructure, digital, and energy connectivity.

In his opening remarks, PM Modi said, “Voice of Global South Summit is a platform where we are giving voice to the needs and aspirations of those who were kept unheard. I believe, our strength lies in our unity, and we will move in a new direction.”
He mentioned the upcoming UN ‘Summit of the Future’ and urged for a united approach to empower the Global South through the ‘Pact for the Future’.
Initiatives and Contributions
PM Modi pointed out the efforts of the Global South Young Diplomat Forum and the Global South Excellence Centre in capacity building and knowledge sharing. He also highlighted the priority given to rooftop solar and renewable power generation through mission LIFE.
He discussed the progress in financial inclusion and digital public infrastructure, mentioning the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and the Social Impact Fund, to which India will contribute USD 25 million.
Health and Humanitarian Aid
Modi emphasized India’s vision of ‘Aarogya Maitri’ (Friendship for Health) and its role as a ‘first responder’ in humanitarian crises. He cited examples of India’s assistance during volcanic eruptions in Papua New Guinea and floods in Kenya, as well as support in conflict-hit areas like Ukraine and Gaza.

The first and second Voice of Global South Summits were held virtually in January and November 2023, respectively, with participation from over 100 countries.
