Prime Minister Modi Praises Anurag Thakur’s Speech in Lok Sabha

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi applauded BJP leader Anurag Thakur for his speech in the Lok Sabha. Modi described Thakur’s address as a ‘perfect mix of facts and humor’ and praised him on social media.

Anurag Thakur’s Speech

Anurag Thakur defended the BJP’s lotus symbol and criticized the Congress party during the discussion on the Union Budget. He congratulated Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for presenting the seventh consecutive budget and responded to opposition leaders’ criticisms of the BJP’s election symbol.

‘The lotus is not just our election symbol but also represents Goddess Lakshmi, our national flower, and the meditative posture of Padmasana,’ Thakur stated. He accused the opposition of insulting revered figures by disparaging the lotus.

Reactions from Opposition Leaders

RJD leader Manoj Jha criticized PM Modi for praising Thakur’s speech, calling Modi’s views regressive. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge attacked the BJP over the ‘caste census’ and accused the BJP-RSS of trying to take away reservations for backward classes.

Kharge emphasized the need for a caste census to ensure social, economic, and political empowerment for marginalized people. He accused the Modi government of depriving them of this opportunity.

Rahul Gandhi’s Response

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi accused Anurag Thakur of ‘abusing and insulting’ him during the discussion on the Union Budget. Thakur had entered into a heated argument with Gandhi, questioning those whose caste is unknown speaking on the issue of the caste census. Gandhi responded by saying that those who raise issues of marginalized communities are often abused.

Akhilesh Yadav’s Intervention

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also intervened, questioning how one could ask about the caste of any person. The caste census was one of the Congress party’s promises in the 2024 general elections.
