New Delhi, India – Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences on the passing of esteemed physicist Rohini Godbole, who died in Pune. In a heartfelt message, PM Modi highlighted her contributions to science and her advocacy for women in the field. He stated, “Pained by the passing away of Rohini Godbole Ji. She was a pioneering scientist and innovator, who also was a strong votary of more women in the world of science. Her academic efforts will continue to guide the coming generations. Condolences to her family and admirers. Om Shanti.”

Rohini Godbole, a recipient of the Padma Shri award, joined the Indian Institute of Science (IISC), Bangalore, as an Associate Professor in 1995. After retiring in 2018, she continued as an honorary professor. The IISC Bangalore also expressed their sorrow, stating, “With great sadness, we mourn the passing of Prof Rohini Godbole. An exceptional scientist, mentor and leader, she won many accolades for her research and championed the cause of women in science. Her vibrant presence will be greatly missed.”
