On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the ninth Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre in New Delhi. The meeting was attended by Chief Ministers and Lt. Governors from 20 states and six Union Territories.

Vision for a Developed India

Prime Minister Modi emphasized that the vision of a developed India, or ‘Viksit Bharat,’ can be achieved through the development of individual states and districts. He urged states to create a vision for 2047, targeting zero poverty and focusing on grassroots development.

Investment and Growth

Modi directed NITI Aayog to prepare an ‘Investment-friendly Charter’ to attract investments. He highlighted the importance of law and order, good governance, and infrastructure for attracting investments. He noted that India has grown from the 10th largest economy in 2014 to the 5th largest in 2024, with the aim to become the 3rd largest economy.

Sectoral Progress

India has made significant progress in various sectors like defense, space, start-ups, and sports. Modi praised the Aspirational Districts Programme for its success in improving district performance through continuous monitoring.

Future Opportunities

Modi encouraged states to utilize opportunities in the coming decade by making innovative policies. He stressed the importance of skilling youth, effective water resource management, and promoting natural farming practices. He also urged states to address future demographic challenges and improve government officials’ capacity.

State Contributions

Chief Ministers and Lt. Governors shared their suggestions and best practices in fields like agriculture, education, and digitalization. Modi expressed gratitude for their participation and confidence in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat through cooperative federalism.
