India’s First Heli Ambulance Service Launched in Rishikesh

On the occasion of Dhanvantari Jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched India’s first helicopter ambulance service at AIIMS Rishikesh. This initiative is part of a larger health sector project costing Rs 12,850 crore. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated virtually, highlighting the service’s potential to strengthen state health services and act as a lifesaver in emergencies, especially in remote areas.

The heli ambulance service, free of cost, will operate like the 108 ambulance service, ensuring patients from all over the state can reach AIIMS. A toll-free number will soon be available, linked to the District Disaster Management Control of all 13 districts, to facilitate immediate response during disasters.

Additionally, drones will be used to transport blood samples and medicines to remote areas, with successful trials already conducted. The state government is also working on establishing a medical college in every district and expanding air traffic facilities with the help of the Union Civil Aviation Ministry.

Union Civil Aviation Minister’s Remarks

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu emphasized the importance of the heli ambulance for the hill state and the potential of drones to deliver AIIMS services to homes. He assured support for expanding air services in Uttarakhand to boost tourism and development.
