On July 26, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke at the Kargil Vijay Diwas Shradhanjali Samaroh in Drass, Ladakh. He criticized the opposition for wanting to scrap the Tejas jet project and for weakening the army through scams. He emphasized that the army represents the faith and security of 140 crore Indians.

Modi expressed astonishment at the opposition’s mindset, questioning their logic in demanding pensions for new recruits. He highlighted his government’s implementation of One Rank, One Pension and significant investments in the Indian defense industry.

He noted that defense reforms have been a top priority for the past decade, making the army more capable and self-reliant. Modi paid tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the 1999 Kargil War and laid a wreath at the Kargil War Memorial.

Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed annually on July 26, marks the success of Operation Vijay in 1999, where Indian forces reclaimed strategic positions in the Kargil sector from Pakistani soldiers and terrorists.
