Prime Minister Modi Encourages Voters in Jharkhand Assembly Elections
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged voters in Jharkhand to participate enthusiastically in the assembly elections. He shared his message on social media, encouraging everyone to treat voting as a festival of democracy and congratulating first-time voters.
The polling began at 7:00 a.m. across 43 constituencies in 15 districts. A total of 683 candidates, including 73 women, are contesting in this phase. Mock voting was conducted beforehand, and visuals showed long queues of voters, including women, eager to cast their votes.
Security has been tightened with over 200 companies of security forces deployed. Voting will continue until 5:00 p.m., except at 950 sensitive booths where it will end at 4:00 p.m.
The BJP-led NDA is challenging the JMM-led coalition. Key candidates include former Chief Minister Champai Soren (BJP) in Seraikela, Ajoy Kumar (Congress) in Jamshedpur East, and Geeta Koda (BJP) in Jaganathpur. The JMM has fielded Mahua Maji in Ranchi.
The remaining constituencies will vote on November 20, with results announced on November 23. In the last elections, JMM won 30 seats, BJP 25, and Congress 16.
