Prime Minister Modi Criticizes West Bengal Government Over Sandeshkhali Incident and Public Beating

Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the West Bengal government for the Sandeshkhali incident and the public beating of a couple. He expressed concern over the silence of progressive women leaders on these issues. Modi highlighted the political turmoil in Sandeshkhali, where villagers accused a local leader of land-grab and sexual assault. He also condemned the public beating of a couple in Uttar Dinajpur, stressing the selective attitude of the opposition towards women’s atrocities.

Sandeshkhali Incident

Sandeshkhali, a village in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, has been in a political storm. Villagers, mostly women, accused a local leader and his aides of land-grab and sexual assault. The leader was later arrested. Both BJP and Trinamool Congress have been blaming each other over the incident.

Public Beating in Uttar Dinajpur

Modi also spoke about the public beating of a couple in Uttar Dinajpur. He described seeing a video where a woman was beaten in public while bystanders made videos instead of helping. The incident was reportedly related to a love affair and involved people associated with a political party in power in West Bengal.

Modi’s Concerns

Modi emphasized that the selective attitude of the opposition towards women’s atrocities is worrying. He stated that when politics takes place on sensitive issues, it causes unimaginable pain to the countrymen, especially women.
