Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the National Conference (NC) alliance for its victory in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. He praised the peaceful conduct of the elections, calling it a triumph for the Indian Constitution and democracy. Speaking at the BJP headquarters, Modi highlighted that the BJP emerged as the largest party in terms of vote percentage in Jammu and Kashmir.

Modi noted that Jammu and Kashmir is moving away from an era of curfew and separatism, emphasizing that the region is thriving after the removal of Article 370. He described the elections as historic, marking the first time many citizens could vote after the full implementation of India’s constitution.

The NC-Congress alliance won a majority with 48 seats, with NC securing 42 and Congress 6. The BJP won 29 seats, while other parties like PDP, People’s Conference, Aam Aadmi Party, and CPI(M) also gained representation. Omar Abdullah of NC is expected to become the next Chief Minister. The elections were the first since the abrogation of Article 370 and the region’s reorganization into Union Territories.
