Praising Jammu and Kashmir’s Rejection of Separatism
On October 31, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the National Unity Day parade in Kevadia, Gujarat. He praised the people of Jammu and Kashmir for rejecting separatism and terrorism, highlighting their support for India’s Constitution and democracy. Modi stated, “The people of Jammu and Kashmir have rejected the age-old agenda of separatism and terrorism. They have made the Constitution of India, the democracy of India victorious.”
He emphasized that terrorist leaders now understand that harming India will not succeed, as India will not tolerate such actions. Modi criticized the opposition for not fully implementing Baba Saheb Ambedkar’s Constitution for 70 years, blaming the “wall of Article 370” in Jammu and Kashmir. He declared that “Article 370 has been buried forever,” allowing for voting without discrimination and the swearing-in of a Chief Minister on the Indian Constitution.
National Unity Day and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel
National Unity Day, or Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, is celebrated on October 31, marking the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Known for uniting 562 princely states into the Republic of India, Patel served as the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister from 1947 to 1950. Since 2014, ‘Run for Unity’ events have been held nationwide to honor his legacy.
