New Delhi, India – On the 10th anniversary of the ‘Make in India’ initiative, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his pride in the program’s success. He shared his thoughts in a blog post on LinkedIn, congratulating the people of India for their contributions.

PM Modi highlighted the significant progress made since the initiative began in 2014. He noted that India had only two mobile manufacturing units back then, but now boasts over 200. Mobile exports have surged from Rs 1,556 crore to Rs 1.2 lakh crore, a 7500% increase. Today, 99% of mobile phones used in India are made domestically, making India the second-largest mobile manufacturer globally.

In the steel sector, India has become a net exporter of finished steel, with production increasing by over 50% since 2014. The semiconductor manufacturing sector has attracted investments of over Rs 1.5 lakh crore, with five approved plants capable of producing more than 7 crore chips per day.

India’s renewable energy sector has also seen remarkable growth, becoming the 4th largest producer globally with a 400% increase in capacity over the past decade. The electric vehicle industry, non-existent in 2014, is now worth USD 3 billion. In defense production, exports have soared from Rs 1,000 crore to Rs 21,000 crore, reaching 85 countries.

PM Modi also mentioned the success in the toy sector, with exports jumping by 239% and imports halving. He highlighted iconic ‘Make in India’ products like Vande Bharat trains, BrahMos missiles, and mobile phones, representing Indian ingenuity and quality.

The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes have been pivotal, attracting significant investments and generating numerous jobs. India’s MSMEs contribute 30.1% of the GDP and have created over 21.17 crore jobs. India is now the 3rd largest tech-driven startup ecosystem globally, with 45% of startups from Tier II and Tier III cities. Over 1 crore patents have been granted since 2014, positioning India as a manufacturing and innovation powerhouse.
