Speaking at the fourth Global Renewable Energy Investor’s Meet (RE-INVEST) 2024, he highlighted India’s success in achieving these goals nine years early, a feat not accomplished by developed nations.
India’s Renewable Energy Goals
PM Modi emphasized India’s target of reaching 500GW of renewable energy by 2030. He praised the PM Surya Ghar-Muft Bijli Yojana, a scheme that helps households install rooftop solar systems. Over 13 million families have already registered for this initiative, turning homes into power producers.

The three-day event, hosted by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in Gandhinagar, focuses on expanding India’s renewable energy capacity. The conference includes 44 sessions, featuring a Chief Ministerial Plenary, a CEO Roundtable, and discussions on renewable energy innovations.

PM Modi also spoke about Mahatma Gandhi’s foresight on environmental issues, noting that Gandhi lived with a minimal carbon footprint long before climate change was a global concern. Modi reiterated India’s commitment to a green future and net zero emissions.

Highlighting India’s focus on solar, wind, nuclear, and hydropower, PM Modi stated that the country is preparing for the next 1000 years. He mentioned recent global events hosted by India, such as the Global Fintech Fest and the Global Semiconductor Summit, as evidence of India’s growing influence in the 21st century.
