Prime Minister Modi Celebrates 10 Years of Jan Dhan Yojana

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the Jan Dhan Yojana on its 10th anniversary, highlighting its role in enhancing financial inclusion and dignity for millions, especially women, youth, and marginalized communities.

Key Achievements

The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) has achieved a milestone of 53.13 crore accounts. Of these, 55.6% are held by women and 66.6% are in rural and semi-urban areas. The total deposit balance stands at Rs. 2,31,236 crore, with an average deposit per account of Rs. 4,352 as of August 14, 2024.

Digital Transactions

With over 36.06 crore RuPay debit cards issued, 89.67 lakh point-of-sale machines installed, and mobile-based payment systems like UPI introduced, digital transactions have surged. UPI transactions increased from 535 crore in FY 2018-19 to 13,113 crore in FY 2023-24. RuPay card transactions at PoS and e-commerce sites rose from 67 crore in FY 2017-18 to 96.78 crore in FY 2023-24.

About PMJDY

Launched on August 15, 2014, PMJDY aims to provide every unbanked adult with a basic bank account, free RuPay debit card with accident insurance, and overdraft facilities up to Rs. 10,000. The scheme promotes financial inclusion by offering banking, savings, deposit accounts, remittance, credit, insurance, and pension services affordably.
