Prime Minister Modi Assures Support to Gujarat Amid Heavy Rainfall

Amidst heavy showers affecting parts of Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephonic conversation with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Wednesday. Modi assured Patel of all possible support and assistance from the Central government.

Over 20,000 people were evacuated and over 1,500 rescued in different districts as the administration carried out large-scale relief and rescue operations. Chief Minister Patel shared on social media about his conversation with the Prime Minister, who provided guidance on protecting lives and livestock and assured necessary support.

Health Minister Rishikesh Patel and Minister Jagdish Vishwakarma visited Vadodara to assess the damage and the relief operations. Assembly Speaker Balkrishna Shukla will hold a review meeting with the District Administration, including the District Collector and Municipal Corporation Commissioner.

Heavy rainfall continued to worsen the flood-like situation in Vadodara and Morbi districts. The gates of Macchu dam in Morbi were opened due to severe waterlogging. In Vadodara, vehicles were half-submerged, and people waded through water.

Six Army contingents, along with 14 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and 22 State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams, are assisting in rescue and relief work. On Tuesday, Chief Minister Patel conducted a video conference from the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC) in Gandhinagar to review the efforts. The Indian Air Force helped rescue people in Vadodara-Jamnagar. A total of 23,871 people were relocated, and 1,696 rescued due to the overflow of 15 rivers, 21 lakes, and reservoirs.
