Prime Minister Modi Approves Big Railway Projects in Four States

The central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved three major railway projects worth Rs 6,456 crore. These projects, including two new railway lines and one multi-tracking project, will cover Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Chhattisgarh, adding about 300 km to the Indian Railways network.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Modi, approved these projects to improve logistical efficiency by connecting unconnected areas, increasing line capacity, and enhancing transportation networks. This will result in streamlined supply chains and accelerated economic growth.

The new railway lines will provide direct connectivity and improve mobility, enhancing efficiency and service reliability for Indian Railways. The multi-tracking project will ease operations and reduce congestion, providing much-needed infrastructural development on the busiest sections of Indian Railways.

These projects align with Prime Minister Modi’s Vision of a New India, aiming to make the region self-reliant (Atmanirbhar) through comprehensive development, which will enhance employment and self-employment opportunities.

As part of the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan for multi-modal connectivity, these projects involve integrated planning to provide seamless connectivity for the movement of people, goods, and services. Fourteen new stations will be constructed, enhancing connectivity to two Aspirational Districts (Nuapada and East Singhbum). The new line projects will connect approximately 1,300 villages and benefit about 11 lakh people, while the multi-tracking project will enhance connectivity for around 19 lakh people.

These routes are essential for transporting commodities such as agricultural products, fertilizer, coal, iron ore, steel, cement, and limestone. The capacity augmentation works will result in additional freight traffic of 45 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
