Prime Minister Modi Announces India’s Dream to Host 2036 Olympics on Independence Day

New Delhi, August 15: During his speech at the Red Fort on the 78th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that it is India’s dream to host the 2036 Olympics. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has already started discussions with the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Future Host Commission (FHC).

Earlier this month, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, confirmed this development in a written reply in Lok Sabha. The IOC’s Future Host Commission is responsible for the host selection process for the Summer Games.

Prime Minister Modi congratulated Indian athletes for their achievements at the Paris Olympics and extended his best wishes to India’s Paralympic contingent. He mentioned that India has begun preparations to host the 2036 Olympics.

India aims to continue its success from the Tokyo Paralympics, where it won 19 medals, and the Para Asian Games, where it achieved a historic 111-medal haul. India has fielded its largest-ever contingent of 84 athletes for the Paris Paralympics, competing in 12 sports including archery, athletics, badminton, and more.

Earlier, PM Modi was welcomed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other dignitaries at the Red Fort. He was dressed in a white kurta, blue attire, and a traditional multicolour safa. This marks the 11th time PM Modi has addressed the nation from the Red Fort on Independence Day, making him the third Prime Minister after Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi to achieve this milestone.

The theme for this year’s Independence Day is ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047,’ aiming to transform India into a developed nation by 2047.
