New Delhi, India – Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Wednesday that the Chandrayaan-4 project has been approved by the Union Cabinet. This mission aims to make India more self-reliant in space technologies, boost innovation, and support academia.

PM Modi shared on X, “It would make everyone proud that Chandrayaan-4 has been cleared by the Cabinet! This would have multiple benefits, including making India even more self-reliant in space technologies, boosting innovation and supporting academia.”

The Chandrayaan-4 mission will develop and demonstrate technologies to return to Earth after landing on the Moon and collect and analyze moon samples. This mission is a step towards India’s goal of landing on the Moon by 2040 and establishing an Indian Space Station by 2035.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will be responsible for developing the spacecraft and launch. The mission is expected to be completed within 36 months and will involve significant participation from industry and academia. The total cost of the mission is Rs. 2104.06 crore.

The mission will help India become self-sufficient in critical technologies for manned missions and lunar sample analysis. It will also create high employment potential and technological advancements in other sectors of the economy.
