Prime Minister Modi Announces E-Medical Visas and New Consulate for Bangladesh Nationals

New Delhi, June 22: India will introduce an e-medical visa facility for Bangladesh nationals seeking medical treatment in India, announced Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This announcement came after a meeting between Indian and Bangladeshi delegations in New Delhi.

New Consulate in Rangpur

India will also open a new consulate in Rangpur, Bangladesh, to provide services to people in the north-west region of the country. The two Prime Ministers addressed the media at Hyderabad House, with PM Modi highlighting the significance of PM Sheikh Hasina’s visit as she is the first state guest in the third tenure of the NDA government.

Strengthening Ties

PM Modi emphasized the importance of Bangladesh in India’s Neighbourhood First policy, Act East Policy, Vision SAGAR, and Indo-Pacific vision. He noted that several developmental programs have been completed together in the past year.

Best Wishes for Cricket Teams

PM Modi extended his best wishes to both the Indian and Bangladeshi cricket teams ahead of their T20 World Cup Super 8 clash.

Trade and Cooperation

India and Bangladesh have started trading in Indian Rupees, and electricity export from Nepal to Bangladesh using the Indian grid has been initiated. Talks for the renewal of the Ganga River treaty and the protection of the Teesta River will also begin.

New Initiatives

The sixth rail link between India and Bangladesh has started, and cargo services have been initiated for north-eastern states with the Khulna-Mongla Port. The world’s longest river cruise on the Ganges River between India and Bangladesh has been successfully completed.

Future Vision

PM Modi highlighted the futuristic vision for cooperation in new sectors, including green partnership, digital partnership, blue economy, and space. The Bharat-Bangladesh Maitri Satellite will enhance the relationship between the two countries.

Focus on Connectivity

Emphasizing ‘Connectivity, Commerce, Collaboration,’ PM Modi stated that talks on CEPA will bolster economic ties. He also mentioned the cooperation over flood management, early warning, and drinking water projects.

Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina is on a two-day state visit to India.
