The second day of the first Lok Sabha session after the general elections began with 281 members taking their oaths as Members of Parliament (MPs). Prime Minister Narendra Modi and 261 other MPs took their oaths on Monday.

Rahul Gandhi’s Oath

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took his oath while displaying a copy of the Constitution. He affirmed his allegiance to the Constitution and ended with ‘Jai Hind Jai Samvidan.’ His oath-taking was attended by Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Other Key Leaders

Other notable leaders who took their oaths included Akhilesh Yadav, Dimple Yadav, Mahua Moitra, Supriya Sule, and Kanimozhi. AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi concluded his oath with ‘Jai Palestine.’

Speaker Election

The election for the Lok Sabha Speaker is scheduled for tomorrow. The opposition INDIA bloc has nominated Congress MP K Suresh, while BJP has nominated Om Birla. Discussions are ongoing about the Deputy Speaker position, with Congress demanding it for the opposition.

Rahul Gandhi and other opposition leaders have criticized the treatment of opposition leaders and demanded the Deputy Speaker position. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju criticized Congress for putting conditions on their support for the Speaker’s post.
