Prime Minister Modi and Lao PDR Prime Minister Siphandone Strengthen Ties in Vientiane

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with his Laos counterpart, Sonexay Siphandone, in Vientiane to discuss enhancing India-Laos relations. The talks focused on cooperation in areas like development, disaster management, renewable energy, and cultural heritage. Prime Minister Siphandone expressed gratitude for India’s flood relief after Typhoon Yagi. The leaders highlighted the restoration of Vat Phou, a UNESCO site, as a key project. Modi also attended the ASEAN-India and East Asia Summits, supporting Laos’ ASEAN Chairmanship for 2024. Agreements in defense, broadcasting, and customs were signed, along with projects to preserve Lao cultural heritage. India will provide $1 million to improve nutrition security in Laos through the India UN Development Partnership Fund.
