Prime Minister Modi and Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina Strengthen Ties in New Delhi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visiting Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina held delegation-level talks at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, NSA Ajit Doval, and Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra were also present.
PM Sheikh Hasina is on a two-day state visit to India, marking the first foreign guest on a bilateral state visit after the formation of the Modi 3.0 government. The leaders have met ten times since 2019, significantly transforming the relationship between India and Bangladesh.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted the warm welcome extended to PM Hasina and the ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan. PM Hasina also paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, emphasizing the guiding principles of their close relationship.
This visit is expected to give a major boost to India-Bangladesh ties. EAM Jaishankar noted the close and abiding ties between the two countries. PM Hasina had previously attended the swearing-in ceremony of PM Modi and the Union Council of Ministers on June 9.
India and Bangladesh share a multifaceted relationship, marked by a shared history, culture, and geographical proximity. The year 2023 has seen numerous bilateral activities, including the joint inauguration of the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline and participation in the Voice of the Global South Summit.
