A 63-year-old priest, Devendrappa Mahadevappa Vanahalli, was stabbed to death on July 21 in Hubballi-Dharwad, Karnataka. The police arrested the accused, Santosh Tippanna Bhojgar, on Monday night.

Details of the Incident

Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar stated that the accused believed the priest’s rituals caused his family’s misfortunes, including the deaths of his three brothers and father, and his mother’s paralysis. Bhojgar had previously attempted to kill the priest in 2022 but failed.

After the recent attack, Bhojgar was arrested near his house based on a tip-off. Commissioner Kumar confirmed the arrest and mentioned that further investigations are ongoing to explore all angles of the murder.
