President’s Rule Ends in Jammu and Kashmir: Omar Abdullah to Lead New Government

President’s Rule Ends in Jammu and Kashmir

The President’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir has been lifted, paving the way for a new government after the recent assembly elections. The Ministry of Home Affairs announced this change through a gazette notification. This decision follows a meeting between National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, where Abdullah presented letters of support for government formation.

Formation of New Government

Omar Abdullah indicated that the swearing-in ceremony might occur on October 15 or 16, as the necessary paperwork is being completed. NC President Farooq Abdullah emphasized that the new government’s main goal is to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and promote unity.

Support for the National Conference

The Congress, along with independents and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has extended support to the National Conference, enabling them to form the government. This marks the first elected government in the region since the abrogation of Article 370 and the reorganization into Union Territories.

Election Results

The assembly elections were held in three phases, with results announced on October 8. The NC-Congress alliance won 48 out of 90 seats, with the NC leading the alliance to victory.
