President Putin Welcomes Indian Navy’s INS Tabar at Russian Navy Day in St Petersburg
Russian President Vladimir Putin greeted Indian Navy personnel aboard the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Tabar during Russia’s Navy Day celebrations in St Petersburg. The event, held on the Neva River, featured a grand parade with 20 Russian surface ships and gunboats, four sailing vessels, and a submarine.
Highlights of the Parade
The parade included various Russian combat ships such as the Project 22800 Karakurt-class missile corvette Odintsovo and the Project 636.3 Varshavyanka-class large diesel-electric submarine Mozhaisk. Foreign ships included the Indian Navy’s frigate Tabar, the Algerian Navy’s training ship Soummam, and the Chinese guided missile destroyer Jiaozuo.
Significance of INS Tabar’s Visit
INS Tabar’s visit to Russia strengthens the cooperation between the two nations, emphasizing the interoperability between their navies. This visit aligns with the Government of India’s policy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, which means ‘the world is one family’.
Nearly 2,500 troops marched in foot columns on Senate Square in St Petersburg to conclude the parade. The Indian Navy spokesperson highlighted the warm welcome received by INS Tabar and the professional interactions between the two navies.
