President Murmu and PM Modi Honor Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on Teachers’ Day

New Delhi, India – On September 5, President of India Droupadi Murmu paid floral tributes to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the former President of India, on his birth anniversary at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Following this, President Murmu will present the National Teachers’ Award 2024 to 82 selected awardees at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

President Murmu also extended her greetings to teachers across the country on the eve of Teachers’ Day, wishing them success in their mission to build an enlightened community of students. She said, “On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, I extend my warm wishes to all the teachers in our country. This day marks the birth anniversary of the great educationist, philosopher, and former President of India, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who is a great source of inspiration for the entire nation. I pay my humble tributes to him on this occasion.”

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended his Teachers’ Day greetings, expressing gratitude to all teachers who shape young minds. He paid tribute to Dr. Radhakrishnan on his birth anniversary, stating, “Best wishes on #TeachersDay, an occasion to express gratitude to all teachers who shape young minds. Tributes to Dr. Radhakrishnan on his birth anniversary.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also wished all teachers on Teachers’ Day, acknowledging their role in building a strong society and nation. He said, “On #TeachersDay, I bow to all the teachers who not only build the lives of their students but also make invaluable contributions to building a great nation. On the Jayanti of Bharat Ratna, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, I bow to the former President of India and extend my heartfelt greetings to all our hard-working teachers.”

Teachers’ Day is celebrated every year on September 5 to honor teachers and their role in shaping students’ lives. The day commemorates the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a scholar and Bharat Ratna recipient, who was born on this day in 1888. He served as the first Vice President of independent India from 1952 to 1962 and as the second President of India from 1962 to 1967.
