On August 19, at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago, US President Joe Biden reflected on his long political career. He mentioned that he was ‘too young’ to be in the Senate and is now ‘too old’ to stay as President. His speech lasted approximately 49 minutes and was met with over four minutes of applause.

Biden pledged to be the ‘best volunteer’ for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz’s campaign, urging everyone to join the effort. He expressed his love for America, acknowledging his mistakes but affirming his dedication. Biden praised Kamala Harris, saying she would be a President children could look up to and respected by world leaders.

Biden also addressed the Israel-Hamas conflict, stating efforts to prevent a wider war and deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. He mentioned Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s work on ceasefire talks, noting challenges remain as Hamas has not yet agreed to the proposal.

Biden announced on June 21 that he would not seek re-election due to concerns over his age. Kamala Harris named Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate. The convention featured speeches from former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Civil Rights Activist Rev Jesse Jackson.
