President Joe Biden Addresses Concerns About His Health and Re-Election Campaign

US President Joe Biden has indicated he is open to undergoing a neurological exam if his doctors recommend it, amid growing concerns about his mental fitness for office. Speaking at a rare solo news conference after the NATO Summit, Biden stated, “I am not opposed, if my doctors tell me I should have another neurological exam, I’ll do it.” He emphasized that he is surrounded by good doctors who monitor his health daily.

Biden acknowledged the concerns about his age but pointed out that he has had three brain health checks while in office, the most recent in February. He said, “I’m tested every single day on my neurological capacity – the decisions I make every day.”

Despite pressure from fellow Democrats to end his re-election campaign, Biden remains committed to running. He highlighted his active travel schedule and efforts to engage with voters, saying, “I’m determined on running, but I think it’s important that I allay fears by seeing — letting them see me out there.”

After a debate with former US President Donald Trump on June 28, some Democratic leaders have urged Biden to step aside from the 2024 campaign. However, Biden has declared his intention to stay in the race and expressed confidence in his ability to defeat Trump.

On July 8, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries organized a leadership call where several top House Democrats expressed concerns about Biden’s impact on the Democratic Party’s chances in the upcoming elections.
