President Droupadi Murmu has embarked on a significant journey to Africa, marking the first-ever visit by an Indian Head of State to Algeria, Mauritania, and Malawi. Her week-long trip from October 13 to 19 aims to strengthen ties between India and these African nations.
Visit to Algeria
President Murmu arrived in Algeria on October 13, where she met with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. She attended an Indian community reception and paid respects at the Maqam Echahid monument. She also addressed the Algeria-India Economic Forum and inaugurated the India Corner at Hamma Garden.
Visit to Mauritania
On October 16, President Murmu reached Mauritania, marking the first high-level visit from India since 1960. She met with President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani and signed four MoUs related to culture and diplomatic relations.
Visit to Malawi
President Murmu’s visit to Malawi began on October 17. She met with the President of Malawi and addressed a business event. Three MoUs on youth affairs, sports, and cultural exchange were signed. Her visit concludes on October 19.
