President Droupadi Murmu is set to make a historic visit to three African nations: Algeria, Mauritania, and Malawi, from October 13-19. This marks the first-ever visit by an Indian Head of State to these countries, highlighting India’s commitment to strengthening ties with Africa.

Importance of the Visit

According to Dammu Ravi, Secretary of Economic Relations at the Ministry of External Affairs, this visit is crucial for enhancing the partnership between India and Africa. It coincides with the African Union’s recent inclusion as a permanent member of the G20, a move supported by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Economic and Development Partnerships

The economic relationship between India and Africa is significant, with trade nearing USD 100 billion and investments between USD 70 to 80 billion. The partnership also focuses on development through credits, grants, and capacity building, as well as the exchange of critical minerals.

Prime Minister Modi’s Upcoming Visit

In addition to President Murmu’s visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Laos from October 10-11 to attend the 21st ASEAN-India Summit and the 19th East Asia Summit.
