President Droupadi Murmu is set to visit three African nations: Algeria, Mauritania, and Malawi from October 13-19. This marks the first visit by an Indian Head of State to these countries. The visit highlights India’s commitment to strengthening ties with Africa, especially after the African Union became a permanent member of the G20 during India’s presidency.

Visit to Algeria

President Murmu will arrive in Algeria on October 13, meeting President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. She will attend an Indian community reception, pay respects at the Maqam Echahid monument, and address the Algeria-India Economic Forum. The visit aims to enhance bilateral relations, especially in strategic areas like oil, gas, and defense.

Visit to Mauritania

On October 16, President Murmu will visit Mauritania, marking the first high-level visit from India since Mauritania’s independence. She will meet President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani and sign four MoUs related to culture and diplomatic relations. The visit aims to boost India-Mauritania ties.

Visit to Malawi

President Murmu will arrive in Malawi on October 17, meeting the President of Malawi and addressing a business event. Three MoUs on youth affairs, sports, and cultural exchange will be signed. The visit reaffirms India’s commitment to strengthening relations with Malawi.

President Murmu will return to India on October 19, concluding her historic visit to Africa.
