Growing Cooperation

President Murmu highlighted the growing cooperation between India and Fiji in various sectors such as healthcare, manufacturing, research, and renewable energy. She noted the close bond shared by the two nations and the significant role India played in Fiji’s COVID-19 vaccination program.

High-Level Engagements

President Murmu expressed happiness over the growth in high-level engagements and people-centric activities between the two nations. She mentioned the newly announced projects, including a super speciality Cardiology hospital in Suva, which will meet the priority needs of the Fijian people.

Honored with Fiji’s Highest Civilian Award

President Murmu was conferred with Fiji’s highest civilian award, ‘Companion of the Order of Fiji,’ reflecting the deep ties of friendship between the two nations. She recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address at the Fiji Parliament, emphasizing shared values like democracy and equality.

Deepening India-Fiji Relationship

Earlier, President Murmu was received by her Fijian counterpart, Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere, at the State House in Suva. They discussed ways to further deepen the India-Fiji relationship and witnessed the progress of the ‘Solarization of Heads of State Residences’ project, an Indian initiative.

Historic Visit

President Murmu’s visit marks the first-ever visit by an Indian President to Fiji. She was warmly received by Fiji’s Prime Minister at the Nausori Airport with full state honors. President Murmu is scheduled to visit New Zealand and Timor-Leste next.
