President Droupadi Murmu’s Historic Visit to Fiji, New Zealand, and Timor-Leste

President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Fiji on Monday, starting her three-nation visit. She will hold meetings with Fiji President Katonivere and Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka. This visit marks the first-ever by an Indian Head of State to Fiji.

Following Fiji, President Murmu will visit New Zealand from August 7 to 9, at the invitation of Governor General Cindy Kiro. She will meet Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and address an education conference.

In the final leg, President Murmu will travel to Timor-Leste on August 10, at the invitation of President Jose Ramos-Horta. She will also meet Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao. This visit is the first head-of-state-level visit from India to Timor-Leste.

The visit underscores India’s focus on strengthening bilateral relations and the Act East Policy announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014.
