President Droupadi Murmu Visits Fiji, New Zealand, and Timor-Leste

President Droupadi Murmu, currently on a three-nation tour, offered prayers at the Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple in Fiji’s Nadi. She addressed the Indian community in Fiji, praising the long-standing relationship between India and Fiji and the Indian diaspora’s role as a source of inspiration.

Murmu highlighted India’s leadership on the global stage, citing the success of India’s G-20 Presidency. She thanked the Fiji government for recognizing the contributions of Girmits and their descendants by declaring ‘Fiji Day’.

President Murmu’s tour includes visits to New Zealand and Timor-Leste. In New Zealand, she will meet Governor General Hon Dame Cindy Kiro, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, and address an education conference. In Timor-Leste, she will meet President Jose Ramos-Horta and Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao, marking the first head-of-state visit from India to Timor-Leste.

This tour underscores India’s focus on strengthening bilateral relations and the Act East Policy announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014.
